Nike Basketball | Kobe Bryant:


The Ad that I chose to write about is the Nike Kobe Bryant shoe commercial that displays a campaign called COUNTONKOBE. The TV commercial features images from nature and the world side-by-side with images of Kobe doing work. The ad is roughly 60 seconds long being centered on things that are most likely to happen, “ the sun shines, grass growing, the world turning, rain falling and Kobe scoring.”  The Ad begins with a female British narrator describing how the world works and how Kobe daily routine is as part of the world’s working process. Each image is matched with a sentence using rhymes and alliteration to create the effect of power and speed. Power was also portrayed in the choice of music.

Kobe Bryant goes by the nickname “Black Mamba “ one of the most deadly snakes on this earth. In the Ad, Kobe sneakers features snake attributes that represent low, light and quick. The Tagline for the ad is to count on Kobe, as in himself as the player and his sneakers. Nike is targeting a huge audience of basketball fans of all ages because any one who watches the game knows who Kobe Bryant is and how he has changed the game. Nike uses a unique strategy in its advertisement by story telling how good this product actually works. With these sneakers you can own the basket, and every other obstacle in this world. The message that Nike reveals is after 17 years in the league; Bryant’s drive to dominate and constantly improve his game is part of the world’s natural order. “This is the way it was. This is the way it is. This is the way it will be. Count on Kobe.”
